I never really grew up listening to alternative rock of the 90s, but I did listen to an incredible amount of rock and alternative rock from the 60s and 70s; we’ll blame it on having older parents I guess. However, I believe that my initial exposure to alternative rock is what made me find The Smashing Pumpkins for the first time. Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness is probably one of the most famously known Smashing Pumpkins albums, and reasonably so. Originally coming in at 28 songs, the LP was already an anomaly for its length. It was also an anomaly for its diversity of genres, huge range of sound, and ability to shape the way we began to see the rise of alternative rock in the 90s. We wanted to mirror the Smashing Pumpkins in our own versatility and ability to break the barriers of what genre our music belongs to.
