Discovering Snail Mail was a very happy coincidence. While attending a Turnstile concert in Denver, Charlie and I had the opportunity of seeing Snail Mail open. I remember us turning to each other and simultaneously having the same thought; “this is how we are trying to be”. To clarify, we both knew that the sounds and overall vibe that the band had were something we wanted to base our own sound on. As soon as we got home, we were both learning nearly every riff and chord progression from Valentine. It might’ve been the fact that LJ played Jazzmaster’s and Stratocaster’s (our favorite), but we were both particularly drawn towards the band’s unique chord progressions and guitar tones. When writing and recording the EP, Charlie and myself strove to keep a hint of the “Snail Mail” sound in our work. We’ve enjoyed listening to all of the band’s work, and continue to strive for some of their sound in all that we write.
